Three Must-Haves for Fall

Despite thermometers indicating otherwise, it is officially fall! Because of the Houston heat, you will need transitional pieces that can be draped on or taken off when temperatures are sliding between 85 and 60 degrees. These pieces probably already have a place in your closet, so in that spirit, I’ve featured some wardrobe items from my own closet with suggestions on where you can shop around Houston to grab similar looks of your own! Here are three staples to keep close at hand as the seasons (slowly) turn.

1. Swinging Summer Dress

Breezy dresses with flowing fabric and neutral color palettes transition easily into fall. How? Simply add a styled jacket, boots, and tights to take a favorite out of its summer box. This piece is a Show Me Your MuMu trapeze dress with a Blank NYC jacket and Ralph Lauren boots. Houston-based boutique Jubilee, located at 325 W 19th Street in the heart of the Heights, offers a healthy mix of dresses in a variety of fabrics, as well as jackets to layer on top of any airy dresses you already have stocked in your closet!

2. The Multifunctional Blazer

Blazers can be found in offices across Houston during the summer, as workers bundle up in buildings where the AC is blasting. Luckily, these cozy heroes can serve as a perfect way to transition thin tops from summer to fall, functioning as a light jacket when it isn’t cool enough to dust off a puffer jacket. Paired with Diesel jeans, Steve Madden shoes, and an Equipment blouse, this White House Black Market blazer will keep you comfortable as temperatures drop. Normally Houstonians love to shop local, but it would be tough to find a blazer as flattering and versatile as the ones at White House Black Market. With locations all across Houston, this well-loved brand features jackets that can be dressed up or dressed down.

3. Vests

Houston heat can dictate style more than perceived “seasons” do. Bearing that in mind, vests are great sleeveless options that help fashionistas kick the heat while still lightly layering for a fall look. This Jack by BB Dakota vest paired with a Michael Stars top is fresh off the rack from SoHo—a boutique with locations in Rice Village and the Memorial area.

What are your fall transitional favorites? Will you be working any of these staples?
