Astros in Boston For Final Tune-Up

Fenway Park will be rocking this weekend as the Astros tangle with the Boston Red Sox in a pivotal four-game series to close out the regular season.

Adding to the intrigue is the fact that both teams are ticketed for the postseason—and may in fact face one another in the first round of the playoffs, pending Houston’s ability to pass the Cleveland Indians in the standings and take the #1 overall seed. The Astros are currently one game behind Cleveland with four left to play. Unless they close that gap over the weekend and finish with a better overall record, they’ll take the #2 seed and face the Red Sox in round one. So tonight’s game may very well be the first of nine consecutive matchups between the two powerhouse teams.

‘Stros Bust Slump Versus Toronto

The second half of the season hasn’t too kind to the Houston Astros, who entered their weekend series against the Toronto Blue Jays having lost five of their previous six games. A number of key offensive cogs have been slowed by injury in recent weeks, but you wouldn’t know it from looking at Friday night’s box score. The Astros exploded for 16 runs, including nine in the fourth inning, and toppled the Jays by a final score of 16-7.

Youth Movement Helps Houston Dodge Sweep

The best team in baseball slid further into a funk this week, as the depleted Astros roster dropped two of three games to the Texas Rangers at Minute Maid Park. Houston is enduring its first real skid of 2017, having won just four of its last ten contests. Of course, that’s what losing four starting pitchers to the disabled list will do to a club.
