Homegrown Talent Graces NBC’s The Voice

in Profiles by

Houston boasts a long list of stars: Beyoncè, Wes Anderson, Jennifer Garner, Kenny Rogers, just to name a few. And now, there’s a new star on her way to the top: Sarah Grace. This 15-year-old fireball has gone from student at Houston School of Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA) to a national sensation on The Voice in just a few months. The blues-influenced singer wowed America on the show with her rendition of Janis Joplin’s “Ball and Chain,” so much that she earned a spot on Kelly Clarkson’s team. Clarkson commented on her “stank face for days” and fellow judge Jennifer Hudson applauded her for her sass.

The Voice offers a platform for everyday people to become stars. On its 15th season, the show features judges Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton, Jennifer Hudson, and Adam Levine. Contestants perform in a “blind audition” meaning the judges will have their backs turned. Judges can either buzz in to see who the contestant is or keep their back turned. If judges turn around, contestants may choose which team they would like to be coached on. In Grace’s case, more than one judge turned around, allowing her to pick who she wanted, Kelly Clarkson. The show has grown in popularity, making it one of the most-watched talents shows in the nation.

Ten episodes in, Sarah Grace has proven her talent time and time again after every performance. This past Tuesday she went to battle against Erika Zade, another young pop-soul performer. And Grace emerged victoriously.

This soulful singer will continue on The Voice, making Houston proud one song and stank face at a time. You can tune in Monday and Tuesday nights at 8/7c to catch more of Sarah Grace and follow her journey on Instagram @sarahgraceandthesoul, #TeamKelly.
