Austin based taco spot Tacodeli opened on Washington Ave in the Spring of 2017. Known for delivering the highest quality ingredients and over 30 tacos across the state of Texas. Since opening in 1999, they have expanded to over 10 locations and created a cult following of taco enthusiasts.
With so many taco places in town, it can sometimes be hard to differentiate so we rounded up the top 5 things that set Tacodeli apart from the rest.
1. Tacodeli’s signature sauce, Doña was created by Bertha Gonzales via a salsa contest that founder and co-owner, Roberto Espinosa hosted 14 years ago at the restaurant. In Spanish, Doña is a term of endearment and respect. Employees were competing for a $30 prize. Little did Bertha know, her salsa was going to become a staple.
2. Tacodeli salsas are available for purchase at Whole Foods and are all gluten-free.
3. Actually, the entire menu besides flour tortillas are gluten-free. The team works with customers to accommodate all food allergies.
4.Tacodeli sources almost all of their ingredients through local farms and ranches. They use organic produce whenever possible and only organic, cage-free eggs. As well as serving high-quality meats including sustainable salmon and certified humane pork.
5. Founder and co-owner, Roberto Espinosa grew up in Mexico City and fell in love with the flavors of the taqueria. He moved to Austin when he was 10 and wasn’t used to Tex Mex. He wanted to bring the authentic Mexican food he knew to Austin. In 1999, Tacodeli was born and Espinosa’s childhood memories mixed with Austin’s friendly vibes to inspire Tacodeli’s food and the way they share it.
