If you’re looking to spend a day Downtown Houston, look no further than Bovine and Barley for a weekend brunch. This restaurant bar is the perfect spot for out-of-towners because it’s located in the middle of the quaintly, historic section of Downtown Houston.
Situated across the street from the Preston Station Metro Rail stop, Bovine and Barley is a quick ride away to Discovery Green, Minute Maid Park, BBVA Compass Stadium, and the Toyota Center. It’s also walking distance from the newly opened Conservatory food court (great for enjoying a beer), the “Houston Inspired” mural (you may have seen this featured in the Houston Airport), and Market Square Park (surrounded by historic buildings that date back to the 1800s). If you’re looking to spend a day downtown, Bovine and Barley is a good place to start.
Choose from a spot inside with spacious wooden booths or position yourself for people watching at a tables outside on the sidewalk. Brunch at Bovine and Barley is a fairly casual affair with a simple, but creative menu. Menu favorites include the tater tot skillet topped with cheese and eggs. The “Bovine Cheese Melt” is a unique take on a grilled cheese being filled with cheese sticks stuffed with brisket and served with a side of tomato soup. If you have a sweet tooth, don’t pass up the “Croissaffle,” which is a croissant that’s having an identity crisis with a waffle shape, stuffed with cheese and topped with queso and strawberry pico. And of course, no brunch is complete without a carafe (or two or three) of mimosas.
When you’re done with brunch, be sure to commemorate your experience and snap an insta-worthy picture in front of the giant “HTX” lightbulb installation. Then out and explore Downtown Houston! Catch some Pokémon at Discovery Green, go bowling in GreenStreet, or explore the vintage shops along the Ensemble Metro Rail Station.
