Riel, the Montrose modern-American restaurant, opened in 2017 and continues to be one of the best restaurants in the city. Since opening, it has been spotlighted by Food & Wine, Esquire, Forbes and in 2018 was named “Best New Restaurants in Texas” by Texas Monthly. Chef Ryan Lachaine, originally from Canada, has created a menu that features a mix of Gulf Coast, French-Canadian and classic Ukrainian. The ever-changing menu is designed to be shared and encourage you to try new things.
Highlights from the dinner menu include, Bannock (green garlic, cultured butter, seasonal jam), Bone Marrow (seasonal jam, persillade, house pickles, brioche), Truffle & Caviar Pierogies (potato, leek, caviar beurre blanc), Hanger Steak (potato & cheddar pierogi ,green beans, horseradish cream) and much more.
Happy Hour at Riel occurs all night on Mondays and Tuesday through Friday from 5 – 6:30 pm. Enjoy Tempura Cauliflower, Bone Marrow, Boudin Eggrolls and more tasty bites for $10 and under. Drink specials include $9 signature cocktails, $7 select wines and $4 select beers. Top favorite signature cocktails include, Rhump Shaker (house rhum blend, ginger, bonal, lime), Sittin’ Sideways (mezcal cupreata, dark rum, dry curacao, lime, orgeat) and Ain’t Nothing But A G Thing (gin, la hargue, orange bitters).
Monday night may seem like the best night make a reservation but actually it is Tuesday. Every Tuesday, Chef Ryan serves 2 for $8 butter burgers that are known as one of the best burgers in Houston. Make sure to get there on the early side because they tend to sell out quick!
