A unique and rare opera gem comes to life at Houston Grand Opera from January 25th until February 8th. Composer George Bizet’s masterful work, The Pearl Fishers, transports audiences into a fantasy full of friendship, love and community.
Houston Grand Opera (HGO) has been a staple in Houston’s fine arts community since 1955. Since then, HGO has grown into a $27-million-dollar enterprise that brings world-class productions to the stage every season, making it one of the largest, most innovative and most highly acclaimed opera companies in the United States. In fact, it was the only American finalist for Opera Company of the Year at the 2017 International Opera Awards.
There’s exciting news buzzing in the Houston arts world: The award-winning Houston Grand Opera has announced that it will present its 2018–2019 season at its home, The Wortham Theater Center. HGO was displaced for a year following the damage the theater withstood in the wake of Hurricane Harvey last summer, but the opera company will make a triumphant return to its home stage this fall.
